back from Tool, Paris Zénith

Dear mommy,
When I grow up, I want to become a serial killer and my targets would be:

  • smokers, especially those already complaining of the heat (and bonus, I may get a chance with Maynard, especially now that he won a lot of money betting on France the day before);
  • dumb people wearing and keeping their backpack even in the pit and jumping around (and I may extend my view to those doing the same in public transportation)

This was a great performance of Tool. Big sound and all, even a bit loud. So loud in fact the kick drum would just make every bone of my body vibrate. And I was so thankful I had my ear protections once again.

The crowd was really into the show, and beforehand I would have thought it would have been much more “calm”, so I was a bit impressed.

I was however unimpressed by their stage presence. Maynard staying in his backyard next to the drums, Adam Jones just being somewhat cold on the left hand side (during a solo/sound part with only he and Danny Carey, he used something against his guitar and I wonder what this is: an electric shaver ? It just felt weird and afterwards he went into his amps looking for feedback), Justin Chancellor on the bass seemed a bit more alive, but hopefully, Danny Carey was great. Well, after all, this is Tool, not the Guns n’ Roses circus.

Strange thought when the show did end, but thinking about concerts I had seen before, the one closest to this one would be Magma. Yeah, I think that Tool is really some kind of Magma on steroids (and with a Gibson. And also without Rhodes).

Geek point of the evening: on the left of Danny Carey, there’s a computer screen obviously for a Mac. He apparently uses it for pads. Mostly for Lateralus I would say for yesterday, since he used those to emulate percussions (but I heard a few glitches… weird).

I also met the woman of my life there. But she escaped into the crowd. Again.
